As Hillsong Church joined together for a citywide night of prayer and praise in the centre of Sydney, there was a tangible sense that God was about to meet with His people. The night opened with a stirring visual presentation proclaiming God's power and glory - and then explosive praise began!

This was the start to an incredibly powerful night as Hillsong recorded its 15th live praise & worship album on March 5th, 2006. Led by Darlene Zschech and the Hillsong team, over 10,000 worshippers at the Sydney Entertainment Centre sang, danced and worshipped their God wholeheartedly and without reserve.

After I spent the last 2 hours worshipping to this album, I was able to reflect on why it struck me so powerfully. Having been to Hillsong Church, i know what a deep love for the Lord our God every leader has there; so, debating whether they are truly worshipping goes without question (for all the media sources attempting to bring down Hillsong church and their music). But beyond that, I feel like this album, for the first time in a while, is a reflection of the church’s BEST efforts. In the past 4 years, we have seen Hillsong gain tremendous coverage and popularity with both churches and the secular world. In the wake of this growth, it appears that the Hillsong team lost some of it’s initial WILD spark that it had from the early 90’s when they first started making albums. In this album, you can feel a holy energy dripping off each song, forcing you to throw up your hands and worship. Another way this album sets itself apart is through the quality of the production. While some may take a glance at this statement and assume I am not focusing on the true meaning of the album, believe me, it all ties in. I truly love the song “Savior” from “God He Reigns”. It is a song from heaven, a song of hope and strength. However, as I worshipped to that track, I was interrupted suddenly by an extremely disturbingly loud bass entrance and bass drum hit. To the people who haven’t known Hillsong before, this kind of production, heavy on bass and a “rough” sounding mix will turn them off. Therefore, it was very hard to pay attention to the words when the bass lines were overpowering the beautiful lyrics written. In “Mighty to Save”, the instruments are tastefully mixed with the vocals so that you can truly understand and know the power of the lyrcis you are singing without having to turn the knob to your bass power all the way down to -50 dbl. For instance, in “Higher”, the words describe just how beautifully superior our God is to his creation. The lyrics and the melody both aid extremely well in showing this. However, if it was produced like “God He Reigns” was produced, one would be more caught up in how to turn the bass volume down and somehow bring the vocals out. So, production really does matter. And they NAILED it with “Mighty to Save”. The third and final point that gives me reason to hail this album as Hillsong’s best is that the way the songs are placed on the album make it so very powerful. Starting your worship time by saying “Jesus, take it all, take all of me and use it. I’m your’s” is only right and proper to do this and give God all the honor. Following is a song expressing the worshipper’s pure joy in “dancing” in freedom he/she has found in God’s grace. And then simply saying “I will worship You for who You are” gives so much due respect to our Lord. And then, almost in medley, stating “You alone are God” makes it clear that the worshippers at Hillsong Church know who their maker is. Throughout the rest of the album, a theme of gratitude and praise is shown to God for all he’s done. The theme is expressed VERY clearly and concisely and brings a smile of joy to your face by the end of the album. Praise God for the Hillsong team for what they have accomplished with this album, as while I don’t consider it to be the greatest worship album of all time (“Live from another Level” by Israel and New Breed takes the cake), it certainly is worth the purchase and the wear for I am sure I will continue to find more to praise God about through worshipping to the songs on “Mighty to Save”
