"TobyMac has successfully launched a musical career on his own as having been one of the driving forces behind his previous venture, dc Talk. His third full-length solo project, Portable Sounds, continues his string of catchy hip hop-driven pop tunes backed by an entourage of talented musicians and vocalists. Portable Sounds kicks off to a modest start with ""One World,"" which reminisces a bit from his last installment, driving forward, picking up steam along the way.
The album is thematically balanced between the impossibly fun (""Boomin',"" ""Hype Man,"" ""Feelin' So Fly"") and the more meaty and sensitive (""Suddenly,"" ""Lose My Soul,"" ""Face Of The Earth""), for possibly his strongest batch of songs to date. Musically even more diverse, it's hard not to think of his three-piece yesteryears with the broken love inspired, pop/rock sensibilities of ""Suddenly"" or the more melodic and intimate ""Face Of The Earth."" TobyMac is back, and let's hope it's to stay..."
